Virgin Cocktail Week:: Homemade Virgin Bloody Mary (aka V8!)

By now you should be adapting to your clean eating regime. I hope you’re working out, too. Even a brisk walk for 20 minutes 3 times a week should be fine. Just get up and MOVE!

One of the hardest parts of clean eating is avoiding alcohol. As you all know, I love cocktails – so much so that I wrote an entire book about them! But I try to make an effort each January to clean up my entire routine and that includes cocktails!

A go-to cocktail that I love is a Bloody Mary. Instead of indulging in a traditional cocktail, I like to mix-up homemade V8 juice. I even place a celery stick into the glass, too. It makes it feel that much more authentic. Sometimes making your juice more festive makes juicing more fun!

2019 Jump Start with Juice January

It’s here again: the new year and our 2019 jump start! The month of January is the month we jump start the year by readjusting our eating habits. Beginning in 2011, I did a strictly juice fast for 21 days. It was brutal!

Over the years, however, I have modified my January regime and added light meals. This year, I will focus a bit more on workouts and meal planning, and along the way, I’ll be sharing some great advice from experts and of course, great juice recipes and other healthy meals and side dishes.

I hope you join me for 21 days of resetting and making lifestyle adjustments to kick off 2019! Start your Mondays and Thursdays here on the blog and find new posts, new outlooks and daily habits.

It is a good thing. Happy New Year and may the year bring you happiness and good health!

Color + Intuition = Daily Juice Meditation 2

Jane's Juice Jane's Juice

Thanks to Jane, here’s the second version of her juice meditation every morning.

If you’re using a Nutribullet, reduce the ingredients by half and add a cup of water, the capacity in smaller in a Nutribullet, Jane uses a Breville Juicer.

Green juice always* has:

– 1 peeled lime
– 2”-3” chunk of ginger
– Small pile of mint leaves
– Large pile of greens—usually a combination of lacinato and curly kale, spinach, parsley
– ½ pineapple, including the core
– 1-2 granny smith apples

And sometimes I add:

– A small handful of arugula for a peppery kick
– Celery
– Peeled cucumber
– Fennel (fronds & bulb)
– Honeydew melon

OK, always isn’t accurate. Most of the time I follow the recipe above, but if I don’t have one of these, it doesn’t really matter. Sometimes pears or asian pears substitute for apples or are added to both orange and green juice.

Trust your intuition as you develop your own proportions. This makes enough to have a little leftover for an evening glass or to share the colorful glass of happiness with family and friends. Alternate your colors and enjoy!

Thanks Jane xx

Color + Intuition = Daily Juice Meditation 1

Jane's Juice

Hello! I hope Juice January is going well. During the holidays, I went to visit my good friend Diane. She had a houseful of relatives running around which was fun, festive, and a bit chaotic; just the way I like it.

Diane’s sister, Jane, was making her juice for everyone, and of course, put a glass down in front of me. I took a big sip and was thrilled to find it was incredible. Delicious, fresh, and green. I asked Jane what was in it, and she quickly rattled off the ingredients and let me know that she juices everyday. Of course it was a no brainer to add her to the roster for Juice January. So here she is:

Jane Zalutsky is fun full of energy…probably from her devote juice habit. Read about Jane here.

I think you will love her juice recipes, but mainly you will love her juice philosophy; it certainly spoke to me.  I will be posting 2 of her recipes, one orange and one green, one this week and one next week. Give them a try and leave your comments for us below. We would love to hear what you think and how your January Juicing regime is going.

Take it away, Jane:

I start my day thinking about color. Is it an orange day or a green day? Sometimes it’s pink or pale chartreuse. But mostly it’s orange or green. And then it’s about trusting my intuition, what’s in the house, what’s local and in season, and what’s the essence of freshness? Starting my day this way is relaxing and stress relieving.

Jane's Juice

So here are the basics.

Orange juice always* has:

– 1 peeled lemon
– 2”-3” chunk of ginger
– 2-4 oranges, peeled
– 4-6 carrots
– 1-2 apples (any red variety)
– 1”-2” chunk fresh turmeric root

*For those of you using a Nutribullet, add 1 cup of water and reduce the ingredients by 1/2 since the capacity in a Nutribullet is smaller. Jane uses a Breville Juicer.

And sometimes I add:

– Papaya, peeled
– Sweet potato
– Cantaloupe melon

Thanks Jane! xx
