IKEA’s Jassa Collection: A Colorful Bazaar

Ikea's latest collection, the Jassa collection, is fantastic. It's colorful, earthy, and bohemian. With all of its punch, it reminds me of a bazaar. Ikea's latest collection, the Jassa collection, is fantastic. It's colorful, earthy, and bohemian. With all of its punch, it reminds me of a bazaar.

As you all know, Ikea is one of my stylist’s secrets. It’s a great place to find funky, affordable, and chic items for your home and beyond. I’ve even been known to use Ikea items for photoshoots from time to time.

The textiles are bold, and the furniture is so fun. It’s just a little bit vintage, but full of modernity. I just love it all.

Toss the oversized pillows on the floor for additional cozy seating, grab a large basket or two to hold blankets or beach towels around the pool, or plan an dinner party around the royal blue splattered serving wear. Most of all, plan some springtime fun!

Shopping for upcycled tile in Italy

Shopping for upcycled tile in Italy.

Ciao everyone! As you might know, I am busy outfitting our new home and big renovation project in Tuscany. Last week we were busy flea-marketing, antiquing, and browsing junk stores for goodies for the Fortress. Frank and I were gobsmacked at the progress that has been made on the house thus far.

Phase one should be completed on schedule. Phase one includes: our residence, the photo studio, and wrap-around terrace, and all walkways, a hand cobbled driveway, and parking lot. This will also include refinishing all the stone facing and replacing all the mortar, 3 new roofs, new windows, HVAC, and plumbing for the entire compound.

Phase two will start May 1st and will include all guest rooms including the outbuilding. The rooms will be newly appointed and the commercial kitchen and lounge area will also be built out. We will be enlarging the vineyard, and fingers crossed, putting up our first vintage of Rose this fall. So as you can see, it’s a very all encompassing project.

Tile shopping was such fun. We looked for upcycled tiles. In other words, tiles that have come from vintage Italian homes, mostly in southern Italy.

We are going to try to use and reuse as much material as we can. It’s the Italian way and honestly, it makes the most sense. All the furniture, with the exception of our bed and the sofa in our living room, are all vintage, antiques, and upcycled. I feel it’s an important mission and something that we believe in strongly.

I selected a red and white cement tile to surround our new Lacanche French blue range.

Up-Cycled Tiles

These super cool tailored stripes will surround the upcycled trough in the studio.

So many beautiful tile combinations! I can hardly wait to use these as photo backdrops for our workshops this summer. It’s going to be a beautiful location to create and enjoy. If you’re interested in seeing the Fortress, in person make sure to sign up to join us. Sign up here.

Keep watching our progress on instagram.

Color I’m Crushing On:: Snorkel Blue

Color Crush Snorkel Blue

Is it just me, or does snorkel blue transport you to the sea? Maybe it’s the name, or maybe it’s the fact that this vibrant blue makes everything scream summer. Either way, I love it. Whether you’re adding snorkel blue to your swimsuit collection or placing it in your home, the color is bound to bring summer from the outside in.

Some of my favorite snorkel blue picks:

  1. R. Wood Pottery Dish – R. Wood Pottery is some of my favorite, and it’s made in lovely Athens, GA
  2. Sandals – I can see myself wearing these in Italy all summer
  3. Swimsuit – Marysia has some classy, but sexy swimsuits. Love this one.
  4. Hand Lotion – You know how I feel about Capri Blue.
  5. Dyed Tea Towels – a great find from a sweet friend, Sweet Peach
  6. YSL Nail Polish – I love adding a splash of color to my nails
  7. Side Table – Funky and interesting
  8. Beach Photography – Gray Malin’s photography is simply stunning
  9. Eye Shadow – NARS is the best. That’s all there is to it.

Color I’m Crushing On:: Buttercup

ColorCrushButtercup

Whenever I see yellow appear in stores, I know spring is officially here. While yellow can be quite bright, it’s also incredibly cheery and manages to punch up a room or outfit easily. Yellow is one of those colors you can’t help but to smile at; it’s such a mood lifter. This season, it’s all about buttercup.

Add yellow to your wardrobe and your kitchen with anything from a pair of sneakers to a set of linen napkins. Below are some of my buttercup picks:

  1. Linen Market Napkin – a subtle color for a garden party
  2. Lemon Juicer – for all of those lemon twists this summer
  3. Superga sneakers – this subtle yellow tone in these is so fun
  4. Beautiful Briny Sea – salt made locally
  5. Le Creuset Dutch Oven – I love the idea of using your dutch oven both to cook in and serve in
  6. Nail Polish – I’ve been known to rock a fun color on my nails
  7. Tory Burch cross body – You can’t beat a cross body for any travel you have planned
  8. Empire State Finery necklace – this duo from Atlanta has some of the most fun and funky pieces
  9. Capri Blue Candles – one of my favorite scents to light and a favorite gift to give
