Happy Valentine’s Day! As our month of travel advice and tips continues, I’m sharing all of the things I *love* to pack to Italy. How apropos for today, right?!
I have rounded up the few wardrobe essentials you will need to pack for one of our creative workshops in Italy. I pack light, but I am all about comfort and mixing and matching. I always include comfy shoes, a little fashion and some really fun pieces as well. If you want to participate in yoga on the terrace, then a yoga top would be essential. I hope this helps you pack, so you will feel great while joining us this spring and summer in Italy.
To pack one carry on of clothes, which is what you should plan to do, the Away Bag is the way to go. Your camera equipment, if needed for the workshop, can be packed in your backpack along with your other carryon items (more on that soon!).
As far as clothing selections go, remember versatility is key. Sundresses that can double as bathing suit cover-ups and cropped jeans that you can wear more than once. For travel days, plan to wear leggings, sneakers (a MUST!), and a tee shirt on the plane, and plan to carry a shawl with you as well. Some folks, like me, like carrying-on their jacket, too. A denim jacket is perfect for layering and is a great choice.
Other items of note to consider:
- Dressy option for dinner on the terrace or dinner out. I love this breezy dress, and this sun dress for other dinners and outings.
- Don’t forget to pack practical shoes for walking like Converse or other sneakers.
- Rompers or shorts are good choices for workshop days. Jumpsuits made of light-weight material also make great choices for excursions.
- I love overalls, too. You can easily travel and work in these. Add a summery checkered shirt or a striped tee underneath.
- Wrap sweater for the cool summer nights on the terrace.
- A denim shirt and white slacks is a great, neutral combo for day or night. Just trade your sneakers for sandals.
- As for accessories, don’t forget chic sunglasses and a catch all bag for excursions and beach day. A small clutch can be used in your plane bag to store necessities, but double as an evening bag during the workshop.
- Finally, a bathing suit is a necessity in the summer!
This is not a sponsored post. All choices are my own, and I believe these examples are a wonderful starting point to assemble the perfect wardrobe for ultimate function and comfort during our workshops and retreats in Italy. Happy packing xx

Hey, you all know I am always looking for great travel wear. When I was in LA teaching my Style Photo workshop, one of our attendees had some amazing boots on her feet. She went on to tell us that they were the most comfortable travel boots ever. Truth is that they were beautiful handmade boots from Poppy Barley; you had me at handmade. Poppy Barley is designed in Canada, founded by two sisters, Kendall and Justine Barber.
Nothing makes me more excited than handmade shoes. I was intrigued because my travel wardrobe is crucial since I spend most of my time running through airports. I got lost on their website as they have the most beautifully crafted footwear, but I immediately chose the the Poppy Barley Chelsea Boots. However, I know I will be back to choose some summer kicks, too.
Couple of important facts about Poppy Barley shoes and accessories they are made ethically in León, Mexico, which is often referred to as the “Shoe Capital of the World”. I don’t know about you but it is important to know that products are being produced ethically. Plus their motto speaks to all boss ladies, like me! “We design for kick-ass women who don’t have time for sore feet.”Yes, please.
Add these boots to your spring wardrobe update, you will not regret it. I can’t wait to wear them with a spring dress. Full disclosure: I have not taken them off. They will be on my feet tomorrow as I travel to Italy to check on our renovations.
Follow me and my new boots on IG stories. xx pssst… my boots don’t know it yet, but we will be trekking through Parma Sunday.
*Quick note this leather color will be launching next week.

After a summer in Italy reentry is always a bit bumpy, mama mia! Jet lag ugh and, missing my morning Italian espresso, missing friends, missing the ocean, the slow pace, and the Italian language, the markets, the church bells, and people talking with their hands, I even miss the non stop buzzing of the Vespas on our street.
I am blessed to have a job that allows me to work anywhere, and a job that when I return although hectic, is creatively fulfilling, a joy! I recently was offered a new position with Muses and Visionaries Magazine as their “Entertaining and Home Editor”, definitely a dream gig. The team at M&V are visionaries themselves as they say this is the start of a beautiful friendship.
This position allows me to share gatherings and parties all over the country and all over the world, pretty darn cool, and wait until you see who we have lined up! It’s a fantasy to finally be able to feature iconic women (and some men) sharing their party style with me, and in turn with all of you.
I had the pleasure of shooting one of my own artistic muses Susan Hable last week, with the splendid photographic eye of Kathryn Mccrary, I think you will be amazed at the mind blowing celebration she puts together for the pages of M&V. She’s cool, real, fun and has pink hair…She’s definitely a girl who’s crush worthy! Check it out coming in November. In the meantime, follow M&V on Instagram, check out my official editorial debut, a feature from Italy in the current food issue and of course for all my styling adventures follow me on Instagram. Have a great weekend and ciao for now xx

After a 20 year career as a Flight Attendant and fitness instructor… the wonderful Sherry Hart moved to Atlanta in 1989. She started out interning with a very small design firm and went out on her own as Sherry Hart Designs about 20 years ago. She considers herself “homeschooled” in design. She has been published in Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles, Better Homes and Gardens, Atlanta Magazine, and Kitchen and Bath Remodel. Sherry is salt of the earth and has a great eye. Love her style. So happy to have her with us today. Take it away, Sherry!
