What a year it’s been Goodbye 2014…Hello 2015

What a year. 2014 was a year that was filled with firsts and much cookbook excitement. I started off the year on The Today Show. A great way to kick off 2014 right?! I love Brooke Shields, and I have a  big crush on Willie! I look so short in this segment! LOL.

As it turns out, I have spent most of the year doing exactly what I did on that segment. I did lots of book signings and talks about how to organize your own amazing parties and gatherings. And I threw lots of amazing parties myself to boot.

I am thrilled about what 2015 has in store: less book signings and more styling gigs with more writing and producing all of which is what I live for!

I am happy to share with you that I will be the Entertaining and Home Editor for Muses and Visionaries Magazine, a gorgeous magazine based in Palm Beach geared towards women that do it all, and do it with elegance and grace. It will be fun to share the stories of these “crush” worthy ladies from all over the world.

I am also super excited to announce that Atlanta Magazine’s Home is coming back! I worked with them as their main stylist before they shuttered a couple years back, and now I am thrilled to be a part of the team as their Entertaining Editor as they come back to life bigger and better than ever! Look for some amazing parties from some of Atlanta’s most talented entertainers and creatives. You know I love a good party, so sharing them with you is going to be a great pleasure.

I am so happy to be producing and writing more. Although at times exhausting and less glamorous than you would think, marketing my book this has been a blast. Read about it here.

I would like to thank everyone for all their love and support for me and my book. You know who you are. It’s funny when you realize your dream of writing a book. People surprise you in all sorts of great ways….and some in ways you did not expect, both good and bad. I am happy to report that my cookbook journey has mostly been mostly positive, peppered with a little negative energy from a few people. But that’s just life. You make the best of it and move away from silly negative vibrations.

Happy 2015! May it bring only positive energy, and may you realize a dream or two of your own. Let’s raise a glass to the real party we call LIFE!

Picture Perfect Parties: One Year Anniversary!

This is my first look at my book; it happened to be in Italy with my BFF there Monica Damonte.

Seeing my book in Eatly in NYC was a big thrill!

One year ago my very first book, Picture Perfect Parties, Rizzoli NY, was released. Man oh man was I ever excited when it released: giddy and over the moon. What a difference a year makes! It’s been an amazing year indeed. Writing a book, a cookbook nonetheless, is a daunting task. However, I felt like I was prepared for it, having worked as a stylist for over 20 years. I have produced thousands of photo shoots and cookbooks for hundreds of clients, but nothing would prepare me for promoting my own book: the writing, the testing recipes, and the shooting of the entire book on many locations was the easy part. The hard part was traveling the country and marketing the book. Although, it was fun meeting all the wonderful people on the road, the road is a lonely and exhausting place.

Asking all of my friends to help me promote my book was tough for me too, because it’s not something that comes naturally to me. But all of my sweet friends were truly so kind and giving; they blogged about my book, wrote about it in magazines, and hosted me at book signings, workshops, lectures, and demos.

Of course, there were a few haters as well. When you put yourself in the public eye, there are always the people the don’t wish you well. But that’s life and people are people. You just move forward. Some of my support came from the most unlikely places, and it was always such a sweet surprise.

After a year of flying, driving, walking and running though airports, renting cars, getting lost, staying in hotels, and shaking about a million hands, I just wanted to share with you that promoting this book was a big life lesson for me a good lesson about expectation, and disappointment as well.

When you write a book, you just want to share your point of view. It’s a labor of love, but once it’s published, well it’s a lot more labor and lots of $$$$. Mind you I am not being ungrateful, just totally honest about my personal experience. If you’re looking to write a book and promote it make sure you budget all the promotion, it’s the expense that no one tells you about.

I am happy most of the travel is behind me for awhile, and I am looking forward to cooking, styling, blogging, and renovating our new house in Italy, entertaining friends and chilling at home with my family and some new exciting projects.

Happy Anniversary to you “Picture Perfect Parties” ; you’ve taught me so much about myself, one thing is true, my first book was a life highlight and a life lesson… thank you!

Thank you to everyone that went above and beyond to promote my book. You know who you are. Thank you to all the people who put together book signing parties that were picture perfect themselves with drinks, nibbles, and wonderful guests. Finally, I have to thank my family and friends from the bottom of my heart. You made Picture Perfect Parties a huge success, each and everyone of you! xx

Inspiration Monday~Gardens that are Inspiring my Today Show Segment

I admit it I am obsessed with terrariums and indoor gardens lately. I have never loved plants indoors, but of late I have been seeing the most amazing indoor gardens, where? Well, everywhere from my wholesale florist to the west elm catalog. As you know I love flower arranging and all I can surmise is that I am mesmerized with these little pieces of living art because it is an other way to express perfect composition in a contained area a glass vessel, wooden container, or ordinary mason jar.

I hope you will join me on February 27th on The Today Show, where I will show you what I have been working on. These unique indoor gardens will have you inspired to try it yourself and bring a little green into your dreary February and March. I will be on in the 9:00 hour probably around 9:45 a.m. watch for my live tweets. I hope I am on with Savannah, I just adore her. xx
