We all had the best time Saturday at our Prop/Food Styling workshop at the Scott Lowden Photography Studio. Let me just say the was the perfect venue. What a beautiful place to work all day. Everyone arrived at 9am, and then after proper introductions we got started with 2 slide presentations: one by moi and one by Deborah Whitlaw Llewellyn (our incredible photographer). I shared styling tips and she talked about photography. We had students of all levels and experience, which made it fun.

Of course there were swag bags, which included my cookbook Picture Perfect Parties, and some amazing lovelies from our sponsors.

We loved hearing everyone’s stories. Once everyone donned their custom Raw Materials Design stylist aprons, we headed over to Highland Row Antiques to do a little prop shopping. This was a great opportunity for everyone to get to know one another and for me to explain what I look for in a food prop. Needless to say I found a few items for my own prop stash (and maybe my next book project)!

After our prop shopping field trip we started by shooting a charcuterie platter, then moved to a sangria set up. All the workshop attendees practiced by photographing these sets ups and getting technical advice from Deborah.

We had lunch and then it was one more demo of how to style “ugly” food. Our roasted cauliflower soup was the perfect model.

The entire afternoon flew by as everyone picked props and food to shoot from out buffet of choices.
