The Fortress, Great Press, and More: It’s the Top 4

I know that keeping up with your favorite blogs can be hard. Everyone is busy, and we all are constantly going here and there. Sitting down for some “me” time to catch-up on blogs can be challenging. That’s why this month, I’m starting something new: the top four.

I’ve taken a look at my favorite posts for the month (and yours!) and have rounded them up into one post. You’ll be able to see the best of what March had to offer without having to search through posts on your own. Fun, right?

My go to boots :: Spring wardrobe update

 Nothing makes me more excited than handmade shoes, and Poppy Barley's Chelsea Boots had me at hello.

Hey, you all know I am always looking for great travel wear. When I was in LA teaching my Style Photo workshop, one of our attendees had some amazing boots on her feet. She went on to tell us that they were the most comfortable travel boots ever. Truth is that they were beautiful handmade boots from Poppy Barley; you had me at handmade. Poppy Barley is designed in Canada, founded by two sisters, Kendall and Justine Barber.

Nothing makes me more excited than handmade shoes. I was intrigued because my travel wardrobe is crucial since I spend most of my time running through airports. I got lost on their website as they have the most beautifully crafted footwear, but I immediately chose the the Poppy Barley Chelsea Boots. However, I know I will be back to choose some summer kicks, too.

Couple of important facts about Poppy Barley shoes and accessories they are made ethically in León, Mexico, which is often referred to as the “Shoe Capital of the World”. I don’t know about you but it is important to know that products are being produced ethically. Plus their motto speaks to all boss ladies, like me! “We design for kick-ass women who don’t have time for sore feet.”Yes, please.

Nothing makes me more excited than handmade shoes, and Poppy Barley's Chelsea Boots had me at hello.

Add these boots to your spring wardrobe update, you will not regret it. I can’t wait to wear them with a spring dress. Full disclosure: I have not taken them off. They will be on my feet tomorrow as I travel to Italy to check on our renovations.

Follow me and my new boots on IG stories. xx pssst… my boots don’t know it yet, but we will be trekking through Parma Sunday.

*Quick note this leather color will be launching next week.

Girl Crush :: Iris Apfel

MTI4OTAyNDk2NTkxNTgzNzEw poster-fb

Last night I watched the Iris Apfel documentary. As a stylist, I am always interested in how other stylists see things. Iris is all about shopping and all about style. Personal style is the definition of Iris.

She’s super chic but in a very unique way. It’s cool to see someone that’s lived a full life.  At 93 her wisdom, which she doles out through out the 80 minutes, is inspiring to say the least. She says that every time she gets dressed it’s like JAZZ. She literally riffs with accessories.

The documentary is lovingly shot by Albert Maysles who shot Grey Gardens and GIve Me Shelter. Every frame, just like her, is gorgeous.

Iris’ jewelry collection is vast, varied, and simply the most beautiful collection I have ever seen. Her New York apartment is filled to the brim with her clothing, along with her Palm Beach apartment that could be an episode of Hoarders…one of the most chic episodes that is. Her husband, the love of her life Carl, is a patient and supportive partner in her mad shopping expeditions. You will fall in love with him.

I rarely write about movies on my blog, but this was is so filled with style that it is the ultimate lesson on how to be a stylist and how to be true to yourself. Let’s face it: in a society that reveres the young, it’s wonderful to see an older person given the respect of a life well-lived. We can all learn from her, and we can all benefit, and that’s the truth.

She’s funny, she’s clever, and mostly she’s a really smart cookie; someone I would love to have coffee with…

I will stop going on and on…. this is a must see.

Crushing on:: Marsala

The Pantone color of the year, Marsala, was announced earlier this year, but I’m just now starting to see it pop up everywhere. Marsala’s deep red-brown hue is perfect for fall in every way, and it seems like everyone is capitalizing on its beauty. It’s an earthy shade that embodies total versatility: you can wear it, decorate with it, and even drink with it (after all, it is named after a beautiful red wine!). Here are just a few of the Marsala things that I’ve been crushing on:

1. Bobbi Brown sheer lip color in Telluride: Every gal needs a go-to fall lip color, and this one may be mine!

2. Aquatalia by Marvin K. tennis shoes: A tennis shoe that I can dress up or down and packs a punch with a marsala suede back? Sold!

3. Dipped coffee mug: It’s no secret that I love coffee, and I can definitely see getting a ton of use out of this dipped mug.

4. Saint Laurent handbag: I love the gold detailing on this bag; it’s stunning.

5. Monroe Mid-Century sofa: Whether in fashion or in your home, marsala is incredibly versatile.

Oscars Red Carpet Favs

Hi All! I’m Nicole, Annette’s web manager and author of the blog, Probably Polka Dots. I’m delighted to be guest-posting today while Annette is having a fabulous time in Marrakech at her workshop. Have you been following along with her on Instagram? Absolutely swoonworthy pictures!

Speaking of swoonworthy, I am still giddy over the Oscars red carpet. A lot of critics said that this year’s carpet was underwhelming, but I have to say that I disagree. Even if the weather did put a damper on the events, the dresses were anything but blasé. So today I am sharing a round-up of my top 5 Oscars red carpet favs. Let’s get to it!

Margot Robbie looked stunning in Saint Laurent. I’m especially partial to her punchy lip.

Lupita never fails to disappoint, especially in this pearl beauty by Calvin Klein Collection.

Oh mon dieu, Marion Cotillard in Dior Haute Couture, be still mon coeur.

Reese is about as southern and classic as they come, and I adored her white and black gown by Tom Ford. She reminds me of a Barbie, and I love it.

At first Emma’s Elie Saab didn’t wow me, but the more I looked at it, the more I loved it! The sleeves, the details, the sparkles; totally Oscar worthy.

Okay, okay, I said top five, but who can leave Gwyneth out of a best dressed list? Not me!

Based on these looks, I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of white and pastels this spring. Can’t wait! Thanks for having me, Annette, and safe travels on your adventures!
