Swedish Themed Party featuered in Atlanta Magazine’s Home

As the Entertaining Editor for Atlanta Magazine’s Home, guess what? I get to attend and throw a lot of parties. I must admit, though that I love a good party and lately the shoots for AMH have been one great party after another. This month we feature one of my favorite creatives in Atlanta, Helen Ballard. A design trailblazer, she’s always on point and ahead of the curve. Her trendy Swedish Solstice party knocked it out of the park. I was excited to be invited, and the food was divine, so try the recipes. Pick up a copy today and let me know what you think. It’s also available online. Let summer begin!

Kentucky Derby Party- Think like a stylist

Last year I designed a Kenucky Derby themed party for Minted . With a few touches and a nod to the race, it was a pretty simple party to pull together. As a stylist, I also try to come up with a color theme, and then go from there. In this case greens and pinks, with silver and gold touches, roses, silver trophies, and a touch of vintage was the thing.

Here’s a list of of elements of the party you can easily put together.

1. Rent some trophies: most local antique or vintage stores have no problem renting things (think like a stylist)

2. You can also get vintage ribbons online, or again rent them from a vintage store.

3. Buy plastic horses: I suggest going to Amazon  spray paint them gold

4. Use candy jars and fill them with the plastic horses

5. Flowers? Roses of course.

6. Paper fans can be used to make winners’ ribbons

7. Find vintage riding photos in black and white to create a collage

8. Serve mint juleps with striped straws

9. Use mint julep cups for arrangements

9. Ask guests to wear hats, and have a “best hat” contest

Let me know how it goes.

Just know: by collecting a few horse themed things and choosing just the right color scheme, you can have a wonderful day at the races. …and they’re off!

Make it Fresh for Spring from Staples :: “In the Pink” A Spa themed Bridal Shower

Staples Why not throw an “In the Pink” spa themed bridal shower? Using one color can add a lot of impact!

*Party Tip : Color…Think of using shades of one color at your next party; the power of pink at this shower makes it girly and delicious.

Try adding a few spa elements, too.  It will surely make the bride feel pampered and loved. The selection of pink invitations on Staples Copy & Print. website was incredible, so it was no wonder I had trouble choosing the perfect one for our friend Mary’s bridal shower. Did you know that Staples Inc. has everything you need for your next party? I even found these pink tissue balls on their site! Tied with Staples blush satin ribbon it made a beautiful girly touch to my decor.

Staples I loved the hot pink chevron wrapping paper. I used it to cover the table which is one of my favorite *Party Tips:  Use wrapping paper as a runner. It’s easy, pretty and when the party is over, you can roll it up and reuse it to wrap gifts.

The custom banner over the table was the perfect frame to the festive pink table setting. I made a small bridal bouquet out of grocery store pink roses and tied the perfect bow with the blush pink ribbon from Staples.

Staples Check out this gorgeous blush invitation! Staples has an extraordinary selection of beautiful, tasteful designs; I was so impressed. I ordered this delicate satin ribbon to tie the guests goodie bags with. It was the perfect shade of rose because it matched our champagne and raspberry cupcakes.

Staples These pretty little wish tags that say Mr. and Mrs. were at the party for guests to quiz the bride about her gift wish list. With the wedding just around the corner, it was the perfect way to pamper the bride with everything I found at Staples Inc.

Make it Fresh for Spring from Staples :: A Woodsy Themed Baby Shower

Staples Welcome to a series of posts about how to best use the Staples Copy & Print  department of Staples Inc.

Over the next 6 weeks, I will be posting parties tips and easy ways to promote your small business with customized and branded products available at Staples Inc.  I will show you how to create themed parties for friends and family, plus how to incorporate fun party ideas for your customers to ring in spring. It’s really easy with the copy and print customized offerings on Staples Inc. website.

When I tucked into the Staples Inc. website to look for products to use for my baby shower, I was so excited to see the vast selection. One of the things that really struck me was that the graphics were so well done. I decided on a “woodsy themed baby shower” based on the sweet graphic depicted on this invitation.

Staples *Party tip :  I like to start with an invitation; it’s an easy way to pick the theme.

Then it was just a matter of buying items off of the Staples Inc. website that went along with this darling invitation. I ordered a banner with a foxy graphic. I used dragonfly print tissue paper to cover the table, and I used small pieces of log and moss with toy deer scattered about as the table decor. I cut quince branches from the yard for the centerpiece and scattered blossoms around the table .The setting for this baby shower was a woodsy wonderland.

Staples * Party tip :These craft paper tags from Staples Inc. worked great for the campfire mug take away gift for guests. *Note: one of my favorite hostess tips is to put together a little something for guests to take home. It’s a simple detail that goes a long way. How cute is this dragonfly paper?!

Staples * Party tip : Keep food simple and fun! I love the idea of milk and cookies. (*Look for my chocolate chip cookie recipe on the bottom of the post.) Use baby bottles and festive straws for guests to enjoy “milk and cookies.” Cheese and salami with breadsticks look like branches and logs in the woods. Food can be that simple, yet also be party-themed and whimsical.

Staples I had no idea Staples Inc. carries a huge variety of stuffed animals. These 2 cuties went beautifully with my theme and were a great gift to give to our mom-to-be. I love that idea!

Staples This cute wrapping paper and beautiful brown satin ribbon are also available through Staples Inc. Staples Inc. has a great selection of party products including balloons.
