My go to boots :: Spring wardrobe update

Nothing makes me more excited than handmade shoes, and Poppy Barley's Chelsea Boots had me at hello.

Hey, you all know I am always looking for great travel wear. When I was in LA teaching my Style Photo workshop, one of our attendees had some amazing boots on her feet. She went on to tell us that they were the most comfortable travel boots ever. Truth is that they were beautiful handmade boots from Poppy Barley; you had me at handmade. Poppy Barley is designed in Canada, founded by two sisters, Kendall and Justine Barber.

Nothing makes me more excited than handmade shoes. I was intrigued because my travel wardrobe is crucial since I spend most of my time running through airports. I got lost on their website as they have the most beautifully crafted footwear, but I immediately chose the the Poppy Barley Chelsea Boots. However, I know I will be back to choose some summer kicks, too.

Couple of important facts about Poppy Barley shoes and accessories they are made ethically in León, Mexico, which is often referred to as the “Shoe Capital of the World”. I don’t know about you but it is important to know that products are being produced ethically. Plus their motto speaks to all boss ladies, like me! “We design for kick-ass women who don’t have time for sore feet.”Yes, please.

Nothing makes me more excited than handmade shoes, and Poppy Barley's Chelsea Boots had me at hello.

Add these boots to your spring wardrobe update, you will not regret it. I can’t wait to wear them with a spring dress. Full disclosure: I have not taken them off. They will be on my feet tomorrow as I travel to Italy to check on our renovations.

Follow me and my new boots on IG stories. xx pssst… my boots don’t know it yet, but we will be trekking through Parma Sunday.

*Quick note this leather color will be launching next week.

A NEW STEP FORWARD: COLE HAAN LAUNCHES STUDIØGRAND

Cole Haan StudiøGrand

When my sweet friend who works for various fashion brands around the world offered to send me some new workout gear from Cole Haan StudiøGrand, well of course I said YAAAAAASSS! He knows I love to wear workout gear in and out of the gym, and this new collection from Cole Haan was perfect for me.

You know I rarely post fashion, but because I am obsessed with fit and comfort when I work and when I work out, I couldn’t resist. This line is perfect for my work as a stylist/producer as well. The sneakers are comfortable, cute, and supportive. I need them in every color. The Synchronize Sweater is light weight, stylish, and comfortable; it had me at hello.

I love the outerwear, too. It’s the perfect weight to throw on right after a spin class and run errands around town. Let’s just say it’s very chic. It’s great stuff to tromp around our Italian vineyard as well, so I’m sold. The StudiøGrand collection is available now on http://www.ColeHaan.com and in US and international Cole Haan Stores.

Girl Crush :: Iris Apfel

MTI4OTAyNDk2NTkxNTgzNzEw poster-fb

Last night I watched the Iris Apfel documentary. As a stylist, I am always interested in how other stylists see things. Iris is all about shopping and all about style. Personal style is the definition of Iris.

She’s super chic but in a very unique way. It’s cool to see someone that’s lived a full life.  At 93 her wisdom, which she doles out through out the 80 minutes, is inspiring to say the least. She says that every time she gets dressed it’s like JAZZ. She literally riffs with accessories.

The documentary is lovingly shot by Albert Maysles who shot Grey Gardens and GIve Me Shelter. Every frame, just like her, is gorgeous.

Iris’ jewelry collection is vast, varied, and simply the most beautiful collection I have ever seen. Her New York apartment is filled to the brim with her clothing, along with her Palm Beach apartment that could be an episode of Hoarders…one of the most chic episodes that is. Her husband, the love of her life Carl, is a patient and supportive partner in her mad shopping expeditions. You will fall in love with him.

I rarely write about movies on my blog, but this was is so filled with style that it is the ultimate lesson on how to be a stylist and how to be true to yourself. Let’s face it: in a society that reveres the young, it’s wonderful to see an older person given the respect of a life well-lived. We can all learn from her, and we can all benefit, and that’s the truth.

She’s funny, she’s clever, and mostly she’s a really smart cookie; someone I would love to have coffee with…

I will stop going on and on…. this is a must see.

For Your Style I’d Walk a Mile with Lauren Rubinstein

Meet Lauren Rubinstein. Lauren and I go way back. I’ve had the immense pleasure of collaborating with her several times over the years and she’s one of the best commercial photographers out there. She shoots both interior design and food, her eye for both can be seen in Traditional Homes, Southern Living, Better Homes and Gardens, Bon Appetit and several cook and gift books recently published. She has also worked for Marriott International, W Hotels, JC Penney, Macy’s, St. Regis Hotels, and America’s Mart. Lauren currently calls Atlanta, Georgia home, but can be found working for clients all over the USA and abroad. Thanks so much for sharing, Lauren! Take it away…

1.Who would you want to play you in a movie?
Wow, thats a hard question. Everyone always tells me I look like Gabby Reece, the vollyball player, but I have always loved Salma Hayek; there is just something about her. Even though I am almost a foot taller than her, and she has that beautiful Spanish accent, I love her spunk! yeah, definitely Selma!!!

2.I wish I could…
speak 5 languages. Well, I probably could, I just need to get going on that!

3.My first style memory is…
I believe it would be starting my photography career and simultaneously designing and decorating my first home. I remember being introduced to amazing interior designers and taking ideas and tips from them to piece together my own design style. It was my mission to achieve a home that was out of magazine on a newbie budget.

4.I could not live with out my….
My people. That includes everybody I surround myself with that brings me joy. If we are talking inanimate objects, it would definitely be my home. It is the one thing that calms my soul when I walk in the door; it is instantaneous.

5.I could live without…
Drama, plain and simple.

A photo that inspires me:

Also, check out Lauren’s gorgeous dining room that I styled here.
