It’s Coming Up Cocktails:: My Favorite Spring Sips

What better way to usher in a new season than to welcome it with cocktails?! Since I am still busy wrapping up my second book, Cocktail Italiano, I have cocktails on my mind all the time. These two spring sips are two of my favorites. They’re oldies but goodies.

The first, the Rare Fellow, is like taking a sip of spring harvest especially with its jalapeno garnish. The second, a Blood Orange Margarita, will be your go-to for the season I am sure of it. Who doesn’t love a great margarita? Enjoy and happy spring!

xx Annette

The Rare Fellow

– 1/2 ounce Triple Sec
– 1 oz. Martin Millers Gin
– 2 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice ( or lemonade)

To prepare:
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the ginger, orange juice and jalapeno slices. Add Triple Sec, Gin and lemon juice, along with ice, and shake until combined. Strain into an ice-filled highball glass and garnish with a jalapeno slice. *Option – For a sweeter version, lemonade can be substituted for the lemon juice.

Cocktail of the Month :: Blood Orange Margaritas

This time of year, there are still a lot of blood oranges at my local market. I love blood oranges; I use them in just about all my cocktails this time of year, even a Negroni.
I love this recipe, especially for a crowd. Everyone loves a margarita, right? Grab some oranges and make it for your next spring gathering. The color alone will impress your friends and the taste? Well that’s a given.
Cheers! xx

Watermelon Salty Dog

photo 1 (3) photo 4 (1)

My Dad used to eat chilled watermelon wedges with salt in the summer time, and this watermelon salty dog cocktail reminds me of that childhood memory. It’s absolutely refreshing and delicious! Try it and let me know how you like it .

Watermelon Salty Dog
Serves 1

You will need:

– 1 cup fresh watermelon juice, I like the little melons for this recipe (pass chunks of watermelon through fine sieve for fresh juice)
– 2 oz tequila
– Juice of 1 lime
– Sea salt for the rim

To prepare:

In a jigger place ice, watermelon juice, tequila and lime juice. Shake until fully combined and chilled, about 1 minute.

Strain into a glass, rim the glass with lime half, and sprinkle the rim with sea salt. It’s okay if some of the salt falls into the glass.

Cheers! xx
